The Hunt

Short Movie

Concept, direction, editing & sound design

Drawing from the ancient Irish pagan myth of Wren Day, the ritual in which killing a wren brings good fortune for the new year, the project explores the selfish nature of human existence. The hunters are not figures of evil: they are figures of desire, obsessed with the promise that something external can resolve what they carry inside. Their pursuit is not driven by hatred but by selfishness, that deeply human impulse to place one's own survival, fortune, and relief at the centre of everything else. The wren they chase does not judge them. It lives its life with total indifference to danger, not out of courage but out of nature. We are all animals. The difference is that the wren makes no claim to be anything more.
